The elmah.io MCP server

Let your AI assistant read your production errors, deployments, uptime checks and heartbeats, and mark errors as fixed when you ask. Included on every plan.

Your errors, in the tools you already use

AI overview › MCP server

The elmah.io MCP server lets AI tools read your errors, deployments, uptime checks and heartbeats. When you ask, it can also mark errors as fixed, hide them or flag them as bot traffic. It is included on every plan, including the 21-day trial, and is currently in beta.

The server is at https://mcp.elmah.io/mcp and works with any MCP client that supports OAuth sign-in.

What your assistant can do

Read

  • The newest messages in a log, the most frequent errors, message counts, and the full details of a message including the stack trace.
  • The logs and organizations you have access to.
  • Deployments.
  • Uptime checks and heartbeats, with their status and details.
  • Recommendations about the health of your web application.

Change, only when you ask

  • Mark an error as fixed, or reopen it.
  • Hide an error, or unhide it.
  • Flag messages as bot traffic, or undo it.

There are no delete tools.

Try asking

  • What are the most frequent errors in my production log this week?
  • Show me the stack trace for the NullReferenceException in OrderService.
  • Which errors started after my latest deployment?
  • Is my site up? Check the uptime status.
  • Mark that error as fixed.

Set up in a minute

Add the server to your tool and sign in with your elmah.io account. In Claude Code, run this in a terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http --client-id claudecode elmahio https://mcp.elmah.io/mcp

Then run /mcp in Claude Code, select elmahio, click Authenticate and follow the sign-in. In Cursor, add this to your mcp.json, then click Connect:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "elmah.io": {
      "url": "https://mcp.elmah.io/mcp",
      "auth": {
        "CLIENT_ID": "cursor"
      }
    }
  }
}

Access and safety

  • Sign in with OAuth and your assistant can read the logs your elmah.io user can read. It can change messages only on logs where you have write access. Tokens expire after 30 days.
  • For scripts and CI, send an API key as a Bearer token instead. Requests then run as your organization and are limited to the permissions on that key. See the docs for PowerShell and curl examples.
  • Tools that make changes are marked as such, so clients like Claude Code and Cursor can ask before running them.
  • Each tool only returns data for features your plan has. A plan without uptime checks, for example, has no uptime checks to read.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI tools work with the elmah.io MCP server?

Any MCP client that supports OAuth sign-in. We have setup guides for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Perplexity, Visual Studio (through GitHub Copilot Agent Mode), VS Code and Antigravity.

It follows your access in elmah.io. With OAuth, your assistant can read the logs your user can read and change messages only where you have write access. With an API key, it gets only the permissions enabled on that key. There are no delete tools, and every change can be undone in the app or with the matching tools.

Yes. Send an API key as a Bearer token instead of signing in with OAuth. Requests then run as your organization and are limited to the permissions on that key.

The server works with the clients listed above, but tool names and results may still change while it is in beta, and we add tools based on feedback.

The AI Plugin installs the MCP server in Claude Code or Cursor and adds four skills and a background agent that watches a release. In other tools you use the MCP server directly and get the same tools.
